About
Team-based oncology, focused on lung and prostate cancer
Assoc. Prof. Erkan Kayıkçıoğlu graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine (English program, 2004). He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine (2010) and his fellowship in Medical Oncology at the University of Health Sciences, Antalya Training and Research Hospital (2018). He was awarded the title of Associate Professor of Medical Oncology in 2023.
He has served as a faculty member at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University and Süleyman Demirel University faculties of medicine, and currently sees patients as a faculty member of İstinye University Faculty of Medicine at İSÜ Liv Hospital Bahçeşehir.
His main areas of interest are, first lung cancer and then prostate cancer; he also treats and follows other solid organ cancers. Alongside current immunotherapy and targeted (precision) therapies, he offers patients access to international Phase 2 and Phase 3 clinical trials for which he serves as Principal Investigator, and he holds Good Clinical Practice (GCP – Advanced) certification.
When needed, treatment decisions are made together with physicians competent in the relevant fields, through a multidisciplinary board review and in line with current guidelines.
Focus Areas
Cancers diagnosed and treated
1. Lung cancer — primary focus
Systemic treatment for non-small cell (NSCLC) and small cell lung cancer, planned according to stage and the tumour's molecular profile (EGFR, ALK, PD-L1 and other biomarkers): immunotherapy, targeted agents and clinical trial options.
2. Prostate cancer — secondary focus
For locally advanced and metastatic prostate cancer: hormonal therapies (next-generation androgen receptor inhibitors), chemotherapy and response monitoring, with individualized treatment planning.
Colon & colorectal cancer
Current protocols in the adjuvant and metastatic settings.
Breast cancer
Systemic treatment in early-stage and metastatic disease; clinical trial options in triple-negative disease.
Gastric & oesophageal cancer
Upper gastrointestinal tract tumours.
Pancreatic & liver tumours
Hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancers.
Kidney & testicular cancer
Renal cell carcinoma and testicular tumours.
Rare tumours & sarcomas
Soft-tissue and bone sarcomas, cancers of unknown primary.
Multidisciplinary Board
When needed, together with physicians competent in the field
For solid organ cancers, treatment decisions are made — when required — together with physicians competent in the relevant fields, in a multidisciplinary board. Medical oncology works with surgery, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology and interventional radiology to define the most appropriate plan for each patient.
Board review
New diagnoses and treatment turning points are discussed, when needed, in a multidisciplinary board.
Molecular board
Targeted and trial options based on genetic / biomarker results.
Supportive & palliative care
Pain, nutrition and psychosocial support are planned as part of treatment.
Follow-up throughout treatment
Close monitoring with side-effect management and response assessment.
Clinical Trials
Trials for which he is Principal Investigator (PI)
Assoc. Prof. Erkan Kayıkçıoğlu is the Principal Investigator for the following international Phase 2 and Phase 3 clinical trials conducted at İSÜ Liv Hospital Bahçeşehir. Most of the trials are in lung cancer. Please get in touch for eligibility and current enrolment status.

A randomized, double-blind, multi-regional study comparing ivonescimab + chemotherapy versus pembrolizumab + chemotherapy as first-line treatment of metastatic non-small cell lung cancer.
-
Phase 3Lung
HARMONi-7
A randomized, double-blind, multi-regional study comparing ivonescimab with pembrolizumab as first-line treatment of metastatic NSCLC with high PD-L1 expression in tumour cells.
-
Phase 3Lung
THIO-104
A multicentre, open-label, randomized study evaluating THIO followed by cemiplimab (LIBTAYO®) versus investigator's choice of single-agent chemotherapy as third-line treatment in advanced/metastatic NSCLC.
-
Phase 2Lung
THIO-101
A multicentre, open-label, dose-finding study evaluating THIO followed by cemiplimab (LIBTAYO®) in advanced NSCLC.
-

An open-label, global, multicentre cohort study evaluating the efficacy and safety of zipalertinib in locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC with exon 20 insertions and uncommon EGFR mutations.
-
Phase 2Breast
BNT327-02
A multicentre, randomized, open-label study evaluating the safety, efficacy and pharmacokinetics of BNT327 at two dose levels, in combination with chemotherapy, as first- and second-line treatment in triple-negative breast cancer.
-
Phase 3Lung
Firmonertinib — Furmo-006
A global, randomized, multicentre, open-label study evaluating firmonertinib versus investigator's choice of osimertinib or afatinib as first-line treatment in locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC with rare EGFR P-loop and αC-helix compressing (PACC) mutations.
-
Phase 3LungOpening soon
Zipalertinib — TAS6417-302
A randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, multicentre study evaluating zipalertinib plus adjuvant chemotherapy versus placebo plus adjuvant chemotherapy in stage IB–IIIA NSCLC with uncommon EGFR mutations after complete tumour resection.
-
Phase 3LungOpening soon
